Walter Scott Shooting Leaves 4 Children Father-less

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 12.02.03 PM

Walter Scott was a father of four with a fiancee. Walter Scott has a family who loved him. Walter Scott’s life mattered.

Walter Scott was murdered by a white police officer, Michael Slager, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

In the wake of the shooting, four more children will grow up without their father.

“He has four children; he doesn’t have some type of big violent past or arrest record,” said Chris Stewart, a lawyer for Mr. Scott’s family. “He had a job; he was engaged. He had back child support and didn’t want to go to jail for back child support.”

Without the Video: Walter Scott Shooting

Feidin Santana, the courageous Dominican Republic immigrant that filmed the shooting death of a fleeing and unarmed Walter Scott by a police office in South Carolina, has gone public with his story. Santana kept the video to himself until he saw the falsified police report and TV news coverage.  He also thought about erasing the video and leaving town, he did neither. He got a lawyer and shared the video.

Without the video, the officer would not be in jail. Without the video, the officer would be on his beat in a position to do the same thing again. Without the video, we would not know the incidents that led to the shooting. Without the video, Walter Scott would be another random black man or “black suspect” shot by police. Without the video, Walter Scott’s life really would not have mattered.

Thank you Feidin Santana. May God bless and keep you. Thank you North Charleston for stepping up quickly and putting the officer in prison. Still a long way to go but more dialogue and more action to come.  #BlackLivesMatter
