Fit Fathers Day Makes a Difference

Screen Shot 2014-06-17 at 4.13.46 PM

Over 500 people stepped away from their couches and other planned Father’s Day activities on Sunday, June 15, 2014 to take part in the groundbreaking inaugural “Fit Fathers Day” on Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring, MD. Fathers, male role models and their families participated in exercise, fitness competitions, healthy eating and more to celebrate Father’s Day in a brand new way. Fit Fathers, DaddysCool.com and Powerful Beyond Measures came together on the idea to show fathers the importance of being health conscious and leading by example in exercising. The event was a resounding success.

hottest new and custom vehicles that helped attract a wider audience. Fit Fathers closed down part of the street next to the plaza to set up a display powered by Automotive Rhythms, Throttle Life, Capital Cadillac Fitzgerald Auto Mall and Rolling Status Car Club.

Nike celebrity trainer Deanna Jefferson and Kimatni Rawlins of Fit Fathers lead the participants in an hour-long fitness portion called the “Social Workout.” Dads could be seen at the outdoor pavilion exercising along with their children and one dad, in particular, attempting the light workout with a kid in his arms. There were also fitness competitions in basketball, hula hoop, push ups and planking with awesome prizes from Bose audio, Mothers car care and Shoe City.

The event brought out local news stations like NBC 4 Washington. The event was mentioned across multiple radio platforms including FM, AM, satellite radio and Internet radio. Through social media and the use of the hashtag #FitFathersDay appearing in newsfeeds there has been an air of anticipation for next year, already.

Cool Dad Site Fit Fathers Launches

FitFathers.com recently launched and is just what the doctor ordered in today’s bad health habit, never-ending work and mass-connectivity driven world.  Health, nutrition, quality family interaction, and exercise have taken a backseat. Fast food, sodas, gaming, the Internet, and digital communication have supplanted home-cooked meals, adventurous family vacations, reading, direct personal communication, and active living. With this threatening wave of mass digital confusion and lack of healthy habits, today’s kids, are expected to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents, studies show.

Fit Fathers site is cool dad approved.  Proactive dads must be proactive in every way!  As important as it is to be proactive in your child’s life, it is just as important to be proactive in your pursuit of good health.

The web site is the vision of Kimatni Rawlins, the president and publisher of the automotive media and marketing portal, Automotive Rhythms.  He is definitely about the life.  I remember when he was about 50+ pounds heavier and eating potato chips like Lays was going out of business.  He has since changed his lifestyle and mission. His family has followed suit and it is a joy to see.  We work out together at his social workouts that brings the families to the track to interact and exercise. He has inspired me and mine and now that the site is live it can hopefully inspire a new health revolution for fathers around the globe.   It’s not just all health, it’s cool stuff on the site.  CHECK IT OUT!  www.fitfathers.com

Fit Fathers Workout

Sunday, I had the pleasure of working out with Fit Fathers for the first time. My friend and founder of Fit Fathers, Kimatni Rawlins, had been extending invitations to run every time he setfit fathers.1 up an event. Some of which, I would even give verbal commits to but could never find the time or energy to actually attend. Well that ended this weekend and now I am hooked.

Kimatni the intense excitement about getting fit and helping fathers do so, came on all of the sudden.  It was an addiction as he changed his eating and fitness habits.  His family would follow suit.  Now a vegan, Kimatni is really dedicated to educating dads and getting them and their kids active.

We met up at Bowie High School’s track in Maryland on a beautiful Sunday morning. It worked out perfectly, as I was able to drop my little ladies off at a hairdresser a block away and return to workout with the Fit Father’s crew with my son. My son Arin was not quite decked out in his running attire but was enthused about working out with his dad, so we were both put to the test. There was a group of kids that ran together as the group of adults alternated around the track. While the kids ran, adults watched and rested and vice versa; cheering respected parents and kids on all the while.

The workout? One mile warmup, dynamic stretches, plyometrics, 50, 100, 200 & 400 meter repeats & a cool down. I had just enough energy to take the group shot below. If I was asked to do anything else I would have passed out! But it was a great workout and I was energized for the rest of my day.

My son wanted to get Dunkin Donuts afterwards and we even stopped in but while in line that Fit Fathers’ voice in my head got the best of me and we opted for fruit smoothies elsewhere.

For more information follow them on all the social medias visit www.fitfathers.com.  Daddyscool will definitely be doing some collaborations with this organization in the coming months. Stay tuned and stay fit.  #DADsRule
