Fatherhood is Changing the Game for Tiger Woods

BvFgdgr

Tiger Woods has been going through golf course-sized criticism on his game or lack there of, and some doubt he will ever return to his No. 1 ranking. His former caddy, Sean Foley, thinks that the fatherhood has replaced golf as the number one thing is Tiger’s life. He is the father of Sam Alexis Woods, Charlie Axel Woods.  ]

In a recent interview with The New York Post, it is clear what is important to him:

“I would say I practice much less now,” Tiger said.  “I want to spend as much time as I can with my kids. I have split custody, so when I’m home, I want to be home with them, take them to a soccer game or to school or to activities. I’m their dad.”

Tiger is in the history books and he has left his mark on the world.  Now it is important to leave his mark on his legacy as a father.  The public’s need and desire for him to be the best golfer means little next to what his kid’s think of him.  #DadsRule

“If you win a tournament, it feels good, but you go home and your kid takes a bee-line at you and jumps in your arms, that just feels better … to watch (Tiger) with his kids, he’s easily one of the most patient fathers I have ever seen,”- Scott Foley

Fatherhood Friday Clint

Today we salute one of the coolest ever, Clint Eastwood.  Academy Award winner and present nominee for his blockbuster film “American Sniper,” and father of seven.  Seven! #FatherhoodFriday #DadsRule

“It takes tremendous discipline to control the influence, the power you have over other people’s lives.” – Clint Eastwood

Discipline is important as a dad on all sides. How you discipline your kids and discipline yourself have equal importance. Don’t forget.

Richard Sherman Expecting a Ring and Baby

Richard Sherman has more to look forward outside of another Super Bowl ring.  His girlfriend, Ashley Moss, is pregnant with his son due days after the big game. Fatherhood is the true game changer.  He has a new level of motivation in him now. #DadsRule

“(A child is) someone that actually depends on you for everyday living,” Sherman said. “Everything they do is dependent on you and how you provide and how successful you are.

“As a parent, you want to set a great example for them, so I guess, to a degree, a lot of things are riding on it.”

Fatherhood Friday LeBron on Kids and Teammates

A funny thing happened in a conversation about how LeBron James interacts with his teammates as a leader, he compared it to fatherhood.   Interesting … #FatherhoodFriday Life raising three kids and teammates. #DadsRule

“There’s no encyclopedia or book about parenthood. You learn on the fly. And, as a parent, if you have multiple kids, you can’t teach them all the same thing because they all have different personalities. They’re their own person. And I understand that. The way I can talk to one of my kids has to be different from the other one, because how they react and how they take in the knowledge is different.

And what’s funny is it’s a lot like being a leader of a basketball team. How I speak to Dwayne Wade is different from how I speak to Chris Bosh. How I speak to Mario Chalmers is different from how I talk to Norris Cole. How I talk to Kyrie Irving is different from how I talk to Kevin Love. It’s how they receive the knowledge and how it processes into their mind—that’s how you know you’re doing it the right way. Being able to understand their personalities, and understand their mind, on how they take the knowledge.” – LeBron James

Fatherhood Friday Bo Knows

If you don’t know … “Bo Knows.” And if you think he doesn’t know about fatherhood, you don’t know diddly! We salute the do-it-all former God of an athlete this Fatherhood Friday. #DadsRule

“I would say my greatest achievement in life right now – my greatest achievement period is – and I’m still trying to achieve it – is to be a wonderful father to my kids.” – Bo Jackson

Fatherhood Friday Guarding the Galaxy

Today, we ride with Guardian of the Galaxy Chris Pratt, father of 2 year old son Jack and husband to actress Anna Farris. Jack was born nine weeks premature, and as a father of premature twins, I can relate to the helplessness and call on God to get you through.  Pratt recently had some cool words to say about his experience becoming a dad.  Also check him out in  “Guardians of the Galsxy,” recently released on DVD, a movie that really surprised me. I loved it.  Can’t wait to watch it with my son. #FatherhoodFriday #DadsRule

On seeing his son in NICU

“It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it.”

“I’ve done all kinds of cool things as an actor: I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy.”

“I made promises in that moment about what kind of dad I wanted to be and I just prayed that he’d live long enough that I could keep them.”

Fatherhood Friday Eric Garner

Normally, I keep Friday old school, very cool or just lighthearted but the times today call for something else.  I sat in on a conference call with the White House yesterday and I have been journaling my thoughts, which I will share but until then … FatherhoodFriday goes to Eric Garner, father of six children and husband of 27 years choked to death in a homicide at the arms of a New City police officer. His quote below was also his last words:

“I Can’t Breathe!” – Eric Garner

Fatherhood Friday The X Factor

Fatherhood Friday with the father that would protect his family by any means necessary. Today’s quote is from Malcolm X speaking to middle-aged fathers, especially. #DadsRule #FatherhoodFriday

“Children have a lesson adults should learn, to not be ashamed of failing, but to get up and try again. Most of us adults are so afraid, so cautious, so ‘safe,’ and therefore so shrinking and rigid and afraid that it is why so many humans fail. Most middle-aged adults have resigned themselves to failure.” -Malcolm X

Fatherhood Friday Walter White and Nursery Cursing

Bryan Cranston starred as chemistry teacher turned drug dealer, Walter White, in the AMC Emmy winning series “Breaking Bad,” and now gets to lace some profane nursery rhymes in by narrating author Adam Mansbach’s “You Have to F…… Eat.”  Reading a book like this sounds like something his “Breaking Bad” character, Walter White, would do. Clearly, that character is not too far removed from the real guy.  Cranston is the father of two kids, with his youngest being a 20-year old daughter. Fatherhood Friday we salute the bad ass dad that is Bryan Cranston.

I want to be able to experience everything. I want to experience being a husband, experience being a father, experience, maybe, hopefully, someday being a grandfather, and all those things. I want that experience. When I die, I want to be exhausted. – Bryan Cranston

Fatherhood Friday McConaughey

Star of the new Chris Nolan movie Interstellar and the absolutely awesome HBO series True Detective, Mathew McConaughey gets his true fulfillment from being a dad.  He is a father of three Livingston Alves McConaughey, Levi Alves McConaughey, Vida Alves McConaughey. #FatherhoodFriday … and he’s a Redskins fan!

“It’s the only thing I’ve always wanted to be. I knew when I was 8 years old. I mean, I wanted to be things like the Washington Redskins running back and all that stuff, but the one thing I knew I wanted to be was a father.”   – Mathew McConaughey

I understood that was why my dad was making me say “Yes, sir” and “Yes, ma’am” to elders.  You know, “I’m not on par with the adults yet. There’s places to go.” – Mathew McConaughey

Fatherhood Friday The Walking Dad

I’ve been a fan of Norman Reedus since I got hip to the cult classic flick The Boondock Saints many years ago.  A single cool dad, Norman Reedus now plays a zombie killer on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead and in real life is killing stereotypes of dead beat dads. The father of one son, Mingus, he spends as much time with his son as he can. According to Reedus, fatherhood is one thing he doesn’t run from.

“I’m really enjoying being a father. I love that. I run toward that every opportunity I can get.” – Norman Reeds

"Bully" New York Screening

On what he’s learned from his son, Mingus: “Patience. He doesn’t freak out about anything. He’s so calm, cool and collected.”

Even what terrifies him has to do with fatherhood …

On what really terrifies him: “Have you ever sat in a parent-teacher meeting with a bunch of moms and you? That’s terrifying. I did that recently, where I was sitting in a room with all moms and me. And everyone’s talking about how we should structure this after school program, and I’m just like ‘Ah!’”

“I think [fatherhood] brings out the child in all of us.” – Chris Hemsworth

“That’s what’s so beautiful. It reminds you of the fascination you had with things, and how you can spend hours just being with someone. It’s amazing.”  – Chris Hemsworth

Fatherhood Friday Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum is a little over a year into this fatherhood thing so today we salute the movie star.  He is cool dad to a baby girl, Everly, and husband to actress Jenna Dewan Tatum. #FatherhoodFriday

“I’ve never protected the president [in real life], but I have been a new dad, and I can tell you that being a new dad is pretty terrifying … to me as a new father, nothing is more important or scary than protecting a daughter.”  – Channing Tatum

No doubt Channing and you will protect your daughter as all cool dads do.  #DadsRule

Fatherhood Friday Dave Chappelle

When we think of Dave Chappelle at DaddysCool, we don’t think “crazy,” but “courageous.” He felt that the spotlight and fame was not “conducive to raising a family” and walked away from $50 million to continue doing his TV show. You all probably know by now that he is back, but we wanted to give the cool dad of three some shine.

“Money is the fuel for choices. But There are other things in my life that I did not purchase w money that are very valuable to me”. – Dave Chappelle

“Once I got kids I got focused.” – Dave Chappelle

“Constantly take inventory of what’s important to you.” – Dave Chappelle

Fatherhood Friday with a Jonas

Kevin Jonas, the oldest in the pop rock band the Jonas Brothers, joined the fatherhood fraternity in February with his daughter Alena Rose. It’s been an adjustment for him. – And WE KNOW!

“We thought there would be fewer dirty diapers, he said.” – Get used to it Kev, the party is just starting!

You will be missed Robin.

Fatherhood Friday Ethan Hawke

Fatherhood Friday is back and this time with the star of the much talked about movie “Boyhood.”  Ethan Hawke plays the father in the movie and in real life stars as the father to Clementine, 6, and Indiana, 3, both of whom he shares with his wife Ryan. (Ethan has two other children from his previous marriage to actress Uma Thurman: daughter Maya Ray, 16, and son Levon Roan, 12.)

“My theory is that there’s nothing hard about being a father. Being a father is one of the most natural things.”

“It’s the rest of life that’s so hard. Co-parenting, finding the right school — all of that crap is a giant headache.” Being a father is incredibly simple. I always wanted to be a father.”

Fatherhood Friday Ray Donovan

Screen Shot 2014-07-18 at 5.37.07 AM

Today we are rolling with Liev Schreiber, Hollywood fixer in the hit Showtime series Ray Donovan (Season 2). The actor makes his kids a priority and celebrating fathers like that is what Fatherhood Friday is all about.  He has two sons with longtime partner actress Naomi Watts — 6-year-old Sasha and 5-year-old Samuel.

“It’s amazing how insignificant everything else becomes,” Schreiber said of his fatherhood. “It sounds romantic. But the reality is that you go brain-dead for 2 ½, 3 years and slowly return to the world. … You kind of lose all ambition.” – Liev Schreiber

Fatherhood Friday Song For My Father

Screen Shot 2014-06-19 at 10.50.03 PM

This week one of my favorite jazz musicians passed away. Pianist and cool dad Horace Silver died on June 18 at age 85.  Silver’s greatest album was dedicated to his father, Songs For My Father. If you are not familiar, it pushed the envelope of straight ahead jazz by creating a smoother sound which would be a precursor for the smooth jazz genre.  That was not his only contribution he also kept it funky and bluesy with his group the Jazz Messengers.

Silver’s life changed at the age of 11 when his dad allowed him to stay up late and catch a live performance of a swing band.  He told his dad, “I want to become a famous jazz musician. But whether I become a famous jazz musician or not, I just want to play music. If I play in just a local bar all my life — I just want to play music. That’s all I want to do.”

 Salute RIP Horace Silver #FatherhoodFriday #DadsRule #History
