torreysmith2

I take a lot of pride in being a great father. With that, every decision I make today, I understand that affects him. I take a lot of pride in going about that the right way and I’m someone he’ll look up to.

My thing is, I want to be the best man I can be, when I preach to my child certain things – what to do, what not to do, just the right thing in general – he’ll respect it, because I lived it and I walked it. That’s what I’m trying to do right now. – Torrey Smith

Fatherhood Friday Chris Brown

Normally, I could care less what Chris Brown says or sings about, but he joined our fraternity when he welcomed or confirmed that he had a daughter.  Royalty is now 1-years old and he seems to be talking a good game, at least. #FatherhoodFriday Salute Breezy … fatherhood definitely has the power to change.

“Being a father is great. I’ve been able to set aside my own wants and necessities for my daughter.  Everything is about her.” – Chris Brown

“Growing up, I was taught that a man has to defend his family. When the wolf is trying to get in, you gotta stand in the doorway.”
B. B. King

Fatherhood Friday Spike

IMG_5245-1.JPGSpike will always be a cool dad for directing “Do The Right Thing,” and Air Jordan commercials, getting in the face of NBA players during games and putting out a children’s book with his wife.  A father of two young adults, he is definitely getting less cool but Spike will always be Spike and never apologize for it. For that we salute the director this Fatherhood Friday.

Mayweather on Fatherhood and Mike Tyson Calls him Scared

Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 11.13.51 AM

There is a lot of information swirling around about the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight this Saturday, but there are a few stories that stood out to me as a dad.

First, Mayweather stating that all the money from the fight will go to his four children.  Mayweather is expected to collect $200 million and says he will give $50 million to each child. I think that is great, if he does that, as his legacy with his children and establishing wealth for future generations are very important when all is said and done.

Second thing I noticed in an interview when asked about his children, Mayweather said he wishes he could see all his children, but because of his abusive history with one of the mothers of his children he can’t.  He was verbally and visibly saddened by it, then responds with, “But you know how women are.”  Although, I didn’t like what he said I expected no less because, you know how men that beat women are.

Tyson-Mayweather

Speaking of which … the last and most entertaining piece for me was Mike Tyson.  Tyson was cornered in a casino and asked his prediction on the fight and his perception of Floyd Mayweather, Jr.  His remarks were classic. Tyson calls Mayweather, “a scared little man,” and it has nothing to do with boxing.

“He can’t take his kids to school by himself and he is talking about he is great?”  – Mike Tyson

Fatherhood Friday Avengers Dad Jeremy Renner

Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 8.49.51 AM

Today, on the heels on arguably the biggest film release in the world, we salute “Avengers: Age of Ultron” star Jeremy Renner. Cool dad to 2-year-old Ava Berlin, Jeremy remarked recently on the Ellen Show about how much being a dad has changed the 44-year-old.

“Daddy’s my best role to date, I think.”

“It’s kind of screwed my career in a lot of ways, because I don’t really care about it so much because I care about her so much.”

“I still work, probably even more. It used to be all for myself, so I’m not old and broke. All these things I still do, but I do it now for the future of my baby, and if it gets in the way of her well-being, then I stop.” – Jeremy Renner

Fatherhood Friday Anthony Anderson

Screen Shot 2015-04-17 at 1.37.49 PM

We salute Anthony Anderson, cool husband, cool dad of two teens and   star of  ABC’s “Black-Ish,” which returned to the small screen this week.  Anderson is one of the hardest working men in show business but is careful to make sure he is a constant in his children’s lives.  His son is taking a crack at acting and one of Anderson’s fondest memories was when his son chose to join him on stage one Father’s Day and tell “Yo, mama” jokes.

When asked what he liked most about fatherhood:

“Both my children being there, and that being a crowning achievement in my life, and it actually made me feel invincible … I can live forever now.

About his wife and stay-at-home parents:

“What she does as a stay-at-home mom, just like all the other stay-at-home moms and dads across the country is invaluable and unquantifiable … it’s the ultimate sacrifice, what these stay-at-home mothers and fathers do.

Fatherhood Friday Still Strong

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 11.39.26 AM

This week, NFL player Devon Still got the amazing news that his 4-year old daughter, Leah, diagnosed with pediatric cancer, was now cancer free!  We salute young, strong and cool dad Still this Fatherhood Friday.

When he got the good news, he finally re-signed with the team that allowed him to stay on the practice squad with health insurance supporting his daughter’s struggle.  Still signed  a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals..  He vowed not to play while his daughter fought cancer and now he plans to put attention towards the game and his daughter.

“I just felt numb,” Still said. “It was hard to believe especially with how bad the disease was spread throughout her body before. We were definitely hoping to hear that the treatment worked and tell us it digressed, but to say they didn’t see anything in her body the whole thing was shocking.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 12.31.54 PM

“When I look at my daughter all I can do is smile and hug her. It was not easy but every day, and every treatment, Leah fought like hell and kicked cancers butt! I’m so proud and blessed to call her my daughter. She has made an impact on me and on the world, at the age of four, that I can only wish to make in a lifetime.” -Devon Still

Fatherhood Friday Ashton Kutcher

Screen Shot 2015-03-13 at 9.07.36 AM

Cool dad and social media titan Ashton Kutcher took a stand for fatherhood this past week. The father of 5 month old baby girl Wyatt took to Facebook and the over 18 million people that “like” his page to rant about diaper changing stations in men’s bathrooms.  Right on Ashton, wield that power. #DadsRule

Screen Shot 2015-03-13 at 1.14.39 AM

I feel it should be as convenient for a dad to take care of his little ones as it is for a mom.  That is across the board from concessions in the workplace to changing table in the bathroom.

Manute Bol’s Son to Take his Father’s Game to New Height

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 1.31.11 PM

Meet Bol Bol, son of former NBA player Manute Bol.  Bol is more than following the massive footprints of  his 7ft 7in tall (now deceased) dad; this 15 year-old is already 6 ft 10 in and shows the mobility of Kevin Durant.

Bol’s dad died in 2010. The death hit him hard, but became his motivation to focus more on basketball to help get through his loss. He wants to complete his dads dream making it to the NBA, taking care of the people of Sudan but not spending the bulk of his money on the cause like his dad did, rather saving money to take care of himself and his immediate family.

“When people say every game I play is for my dad, it makes me feel good; makes me work harder”

Bol is just getting started.

Fatherhood Friday Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry-Seinfeld-autism

Comedian and cool dad of three, Jerry Seinfeld is stepping up for fatherhood. Recently, he hosted Baby Buggy’s the inaugural Los Angeles Fatherhood Initiative Lunch in California.  The Baby Buggy Fatherhood Leadership Council includes Jason Alexander, Jason Bateman, Kevin Hart, Jay Leno, Michael Richards and Bob Saget.

Baby Buggy is a non-profit started by Jerry’s wife, Jessica. Jerry believes that fathers lack a support system, so this initiative fills part of the void and allows these celebrity dads to support one another in their daddy journey.

“Women do that naturally.  Men — it just doesn’t even cross their mind. They just quietly suffer, and that’s why a lot these marriages go south. People suffer and suffer and suffer and they go, ‘I can’t take it anymore, I’m outta here.’” – Jerry Seinfeld

article-2411695-1B9F800B000005DC-74_634x629

“I wasn’t surprised that I loved fatherhood as much as I did,” Seinfeld recalls. “But I was surprised what I needed to learn that I didn’t know, which is one of the reasons I wanted to do this. Being a husband and a father — you don’t get any training, and people need training.” – Jerry Seinfeld

Fatherhood is Changing the Game for Tiger Woods

BvFgdgr

Tiger Woods has been going through golf course-sized criticism on his game or lack there of, and some doubt he will ever return to his No. 1 ranking. His former caddy, Sean Foley, thinks that the fatherhood has replaced golf as the number one thing is Tiger’s life. He is the father of Sam Alexis Woods, Charlie Axel Woods.  ]

In a recent interview with The New York Post, it is clear what is important to him:

“I would say I practice much less now,” Tiger said.  “I want to spend as much time as I can with my kids. I have split custody, so when I’m home, I want to be home with them, take them to a soccer game or to school or to activities. I’m their dad.”

Tiger is in the history books and he has left his mark on the world.  Now it is important to leave his mark on his legacy as a father.  The public’s need and desire for him to be the best golfer means little next to what his kid’s think of him.  #DadsRule

“If you win a tournament, it feels good, but you go home and your kid takes a bee-line at you and jumps in your arms, that just feels better … to watch (Tiger) with his kids, he’s easily one of the most patient fathers I have ever seen,”- Scott Foley
