Justin Timberlake on Fatherhood

Screen Shot 2016-08-05 at 11.08.52 AM

Fatherhood Friday shout out to Justin Timberlake who is wearing fatherhood well and not shying away from letting it be known. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair how being a new daddy to son Silas has gave him a new perspective.

“Having a child gives you a different insight.”It’s like The Matrix, man. You open a door and there’s this whole other world on the other side of it. And you look back through the door at the other world and you’re like, ‘What was I doing there?'”

“Maybe it’s the difference between 20s and 30s. The difference between ‘must achieve,’ and now it’s like, ‘Work smarter, not harder.’ You want to have time for your family.”

Timberlake was recently on the Teen Choice Awards accepting an honor and took the time to encourage the youth to be nice to their parents and respect what they offer as it will help them be able to make a difference in the world. See video below

Pantene Shows NFL Dads Doing Hair and It’s Adorable

Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 6.05.52 AM

Last year, during Super Bowl week companies swung hard and heavy at dads, which was really cool. Pantene has struck an early chord showcasing NFL dads doing their daughters hair in a collection of cute short videos. The Pittsburg Steelers’ DeAngelo Williams, Dallas Cowboys’ Jason Witten and New Orleans Saints’ Benjamin Watson show a sweet Cool Dad side connecting with their princesses. Each dad tackles their kid’s hair in their own way and Pantene adds visual play-by-play that injects humor while staying on topic with hair products and football references. Brilliant!

Do We Protect Our Kids or Do They Protect Us?

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 3.27.11 PMThis weekend Chris Hemsworth drops in theaters this week with the Ron Howard directed “In the Heart of the Sea,” and also dropped some serious knowledge on the relationship of parents and children with a most important revelation while riding in the back seat with his 3 year-old daughter.

Check out his story below:

“Last week, we were in the car driving somewhere, and my little girl was in the back seat with me. I was really tired, and I leaned over and I put my head on her lap, without even thinking about it. I just wanted to lie down a little bit and sleep because it was a 40-minute drive. And she started patting my head and singing a song through her pacifier.  I don’t even know what song it was. . .I looked at my wife, who was in the front seat, and she had tears in her eyes.”

“There’s the idea that we as parents spend all this time protecting our children. No, I think they’re protecting us. Sitting in the car with my head on her lap and her singing to me, there was this understanding of, ‘Wow, she’s looking after Dad, and that’s her job.’ You know? And that was such a joy. Oh, there’s nothing better! It was the happiest moment of my life.” – Chris Hemsworth

What do you think? Especially for those of us with young kids but it rings true for our older kids or even us as kids of a mother and father.  Is it the kids job to protect the parent?

It all boils down to the simple fact that as much as we think about or talk about how our job as a parent is to protect our kids, they actually protect us as well.  My kids (9 and 11 years old) are some of the most caring and nurturing human beings I know.  They know when I am sad or hurt and they go into protection and care mode.  They tell me they love me all the time. There were times when I could not have made it without them as a single dad and there are times they give me the strength to try harder to be a better husband and father now.  They take care of daddy always.  I hopefully when they are older and I don’t have to care for them as much, they will still have it in them to look out for daddy.

To the parents in the trenches, I think our young kids protect us as much as we protect them.

Salute you, Chris Hemsworth.  #DadsRule #FatherhoodFriday

Zuckerberg Becomes Dad and Gives Away $45b for Generations to Come

mark_zuckerberg_and_priscilla_chan_announce_baby_girl_promise_to_give_away_their_facebook_fortune_251720267.png_resized_600.jpg

This week Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg “Facebooked” the birth of his first born, Maxima Chan Zuckerberg posting a lengthy letter on his Facebook account addressed to Max.  The letter explains how he wants his daughter “to grow up in a world better than ours today,” and how he and his wife plan on assisting in changing the world.

The change begins with giving up 99 percent of his shares in Facebook, currently valued at $45 billion, to “advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation.” The shares will not go to a non profit but instead a corporation, Chan Zuckerberg, LLC.  In this way Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, are not exempt from taxes but are also not tied down by non profit restrictions and  can reinvest in other ventures to generate new money for the initiative. This way the money can keep circulating to non profits and causes they see fit to support, according to Zuckerberg

Zuckerberg ends the letter to his daughter with the following:

“Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can’t wait to see what you bring to this world.
Love,
Mom and Dad”

Zuckerberg, being the cool dad that he is, is throwing himself into fatherhood taking two months paternity leave from his social media presidency.  We salute you as a new father and giving philanthropist!  #DadsRule #FatherhoodFriday

“I became a father at the age of 19. Now, at that age along with a definite lack of maturity you can only do two things when it comes to being a father. One, rise to the occasion and sacrifice for the safety and stability of your child. Or two, fail miserably.”

“My responsibility is to send decent human beings out into society.” – Xzibit

Aziz Ansari’s New Netflix Show Highlights his Dad

aziz-ansari-01-800

If you haven’t caught Aziz Ansar’s new Netflix sitcom, “Master of None,” you should check it out. After I finished an interested first episode where he gets a new picture of fatherhood and how it would really be as a dad, I was in!  The next episode “Parents” includes his real mom and dad who are fixtures on the show after this episode.

Aziz recently admitted that his dad took most of his vacation time from work for the year to come act on the show.  Aziz’s dad told Late Show host Stephen Colbert, “This is all fun and I liked acting in the show, but I really just did it so I could spent more time with you.”

Aziz was so touched he had the following response on Instagram:

“I’m an incredibly lucky person and many of you are as well,” he continued. “Not to beat a dead horse here and sorry if this is cheesy or too sentimental but if your parents are good to you too, just go do something nice for them. I bet they care and love you more than you realize.” Aziz

#DadsRule  – Binge watch Master of None on Netflix.

RIP Darryl Dawkins Fatherhood Friday

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 11.08.35 AM

Yesterday, we lost one of our legendary figures in professional basketball, Darryl Dawkins. A man that became a legend for rattling backboards until they shattered. A man that would be known as “Chocolate Thunder,” after Stevie Wonder felt the vibrations from one of his slam dunks and nicknamed him. Famous for the slam dunks he would name: “The If-You-Ain’t-Groovin’, Best-Get-Movin’, Chocolate-Thunder-Flyin’, Robinzine-Cryin’, Teeth-Shakin’, Glass-Breakin’, Rump-Roastin’, Bun-Toastin’, Glass-Still Flyin’, Wham-Bam-I-Am-Jam.”

Darryl Dawkins would  play 14 years in the NBA and although he would marry four times he stayed a cool dad to his children, it seems.  He died at 58 from a heart attack, according to reports.  He leaves behind three children in Alexis, Nick and Tabitha Dawkins.

David Beckham on Fatherhood and Pacifiers

Screen Shot 2015-08-12 at 8.41.15 AM

Don’t you hate it when people question your fatherhood skills or parental choices? David Beckham does. He was recently photographed with his four-year old daughter, Harper sucking a pacifier and he flexed his dad muscle.

“Why do people feel they have the right to criticize a parent about their own children without having any facts ?”

“Everybody who has children knows that when they aren’t feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it’s a pacifier so those who criticize think twice about what you say about other people’s children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent …”

Fatherhood Friday Funniest Dad Quote, Thanks Ryan Reynolds

Screen Shot 2015-07-31 at 1.10.15 PMDads say the darndest things.  The star of the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds just made my day. The actor and recent father of a beautiful baby girl with actress Blake Lively, named James. What?  My daughter’s name is Michal (pronounced Michael), so say something – LOL.

Okay, I will share a few fatherhood quotes from Reynolds. I died after the first one.

“I used to say to her (MY WIFE), ‘I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.’ And then the second I looked in that baby’s eyes, I knew in that exact moment, if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby.”

“Everyone thinks their baby is a genius. People find it delightfully refreshing when I tell them, ‘My baby? Totally average. Like, 100 percent average.'”

“If anything else woke up every 45 minutes during the night demanding to see my wife’s breasts, you kill it. [But with] a baby, you’re like, ‘Wahoo!'”

“It’s amazing that you can be that exhausted and that happy at the same time.”

Fatherhood Friday Novak Djokovic

Screen Shot 2015-07-24 at 12.57.44 PM

“Ever since I got married and became a father, I haven’t lost many matches, I won many tournaments. I suggest that to every player, get married, have kids, let’s enjoy this.”

Novak Djokovic recently hoisted the Wimbledon trophy with a victory over pro tennis great, Roger Federer.  The 28-year old Serbian credits that win and various other wins to fatherhood.  Cool dads can get into that train of thought!  #DadsRule #FatherhoodFriday

FACT since his son’s birth: He has lost only three of 61 matches and collected eight titles, including the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

“If there is one thing that I learned it is to recover fast and to leave things behind me and move on.” – Djokovic explains that fatherhood has helped with that.
