Happy Kid’s Book Coming from Pharrell

be3

Grammy winning producer/artist and cool dad Pharrell Williams inked a deal to turn his song “Happy” into four new children’s books published by Penguin.  This is a good fit for a song so widely loved by all generations worldwide.

“I’m humbled by the global success of ‘Happy,’ but especially in awe of the song’s young fans,” Pharrell said.  “My collaboration with Penguin allows me to continue a dialogue with these children in a fresh, new way.”

The books will feature pictures of kids all around the world “celebrating what it means to be happy” and will be a limited run with the first book coming September 22, 2015.

Fatherhood Friday Walter White and Nursery Cursing

Bryan Cranston starred as chemistry teacher turned drug dealer, Walter White, in the AMC Emmy winning series “Breaking Bad,” and now gets to lace some profane nursery rhymes in by narrating author Adam Mansbach’s “You Have to F…… Eat.”  Reading a book like this sounds like something his “Breaking Bad” character, Walter White, would do. Clearly, that character is not too far removed from the real guy.  Cranston is the father of two kids, with his youngest being a 20-year old daughter. Fatherhood Friday we salute the bad ass dad that is Bryan Cranston.

I want to be able to experience everything. I want to experience being a husband, experience being a father, experience, maybe, hopefully, someday being a grandfather, and all those things. I want that experience. When I die, I want to be exhausted. – Bryan Cranston

Serious Comic Book on Fatherhood

A comic book on fatherhood? Why not!  My life is definitely a comic strip of superhero proportions.  Here is a serious take on it with new crime noir comic book, “Fatherhood” from Challenger Comics.  #DADsRule

“When a father sets out to get the doll and make his daughter smile, he fails miserably. The pressure makes him crack and he enters an imaginary ‘noir world’ where he is strong enough to handle the problems that crush him in everyday life. FATHERHOOD is an emotional tale about how much love your heart can hold, how much love it takes to break a man, and what happens when you lose your grip on reality because you are clutching that love too tight.”

New Book Bets on Black Dads

BOOK FOR KICKSTARTER

This month a new book debuts set to shatter stereotypes of Black fathers though positive and inspirational essays about everyday

fathers written by the daughters they have raised. Bet on Black:  African-American Women Celebrate Fatherhood in the Age of

Barack Obama was inspired by President Barack Obama’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative which encourages and supports

responsible fathers.

“This book is incredibly near to my heart—just like my father,” explains the book’s editor, Kenrya Rankin Naasel.  After years of

hearing how terrible Black men are at taking care of their children, I realized that it is important to share the positive stories like

ours,”

Through this collection of thoughtful essays, twenty women wrestle with the much maligned image of the Black dad

and shed light on the touching relationships they have with the dynamic fathers in their lives.

DaddysCool was privy to the advanced proof and we were quite impressed and moved. I know personally there is nothing like hearing

from my daughters what I mean to them and those sensory and personal moments are captured here in this book.

2nd Grader Starts Book Club at School

You have to love Michal Zoe’s initiative; my second grader has started her own book club!

At one point during the school year she was invited to join a group of second and third graders in a small book club at her school.  She was so excited she was reading on such a high level to be chosen and loved the idea of not having lunch with her classmates but lunch and book talk elsewhere. Well, that idea could not be upheld by the teacher’s busy schedule and the book club ended.

Soon Michal talked to me about how she missed it and how she wished she could do her own.  I told her that was a great idea and to do it. My idea was over the summer but her thoughts were more immediate, as they ALWAYS are.  She went directly to her vice principal and set the ball in motion. She was going to invite anyone interested to attend, then she got specific and created a list to give the flyer/invites.  Not my suggestion but definitely how daddy would have done it.

Check out the flyer daddy created for her. That little girl inspires me, she is a go-getter.
