TY Hilton New Daddy TD Celebration

Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver TY Hilton was up late the night before a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was on his feet all night and showed up late to the field this past Sunday.  He wasn’t out partying, he was witnessing the birth of his first daughter and rocking her in his arms until 6am that morning. He promised the newborn that he would score a touchdown for her and bring her the game ball.

So, on very little sleep and barely anything to eat, he arrived ready to play and did just as he promised. Overcome with emotions, he quieted the crowd following his touchdown catch and cradled the ball in his arms as if he was rocking his new daughter to sleep in the endzone.  #DadsRule

Nearly 5 Million Strollers Recalled

Due to a folding hinge on 11 strollers that “can pinch a child’s finger, posing a laceration or amputation,”  4.7 million Graco and Century strollers have been recalled. There have been 10 reported cases of injuries, so far.

The recalled models are Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, LiteRider, Sierra, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate model strollers and travel systems.

“Caregivers are advised to immediately remove the child from a stroller that begins to fold to keep their fingers from the side hinge area,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

Fatherhood Friday The X Factor

Fatherhood Friday with the father that would protect his family by any means necessary. Today’s quote is from Malcolm X speaking to middle-aged fathers, especially. #DadsRule #FatherhoodFriday

“Children have a lesson adults should learn, to not be ashamed of failing, but to get up and try again. Most of us adults are so afraid, so cautious, so ‘safe,’ and therefore so shrinking and rigid and afraid that it is why so many humans fail. Most middle-aged adults have resigned themselves to failure.” -Malcolm X

Words to Father By

These are the words of Pastor Keith Battle and have really inspired me to rethink the way I father. It is a must that as dads, we figure out what our kid need from us. Every child is wired differently. We can’t make our children be what we want or mold them into the likeness of what we could never accomplish. Find out your child’s needs and love language and operate to meet and grow them from their needs.

Wale vs. Seinfeld

The two artists cover Complex Magazine’s latest issue. The article foreshadows the release of Wale’s Seinfeld-inspired release. “The Album About Nothing” which features Jerry Seinfeld.

I salute the DMV (DC Metro Virginia) and Wale for representing the area I reside. BUT … Seinfeld is just way cooler. #DadsRule

$100,000 Makeover and Hi Tech Initiative for Boys & Girls Clubs Through Comcast

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington recently partnered with Comcast NBCUniversal to launch its new technology initiative to help bridge the digital divide in urban areas called “My.Furture.”  The Comcast Foundation provided Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington with $100,000 for computers, tablets, Smart Boards, digital cameras, music studio tools and video-editing technology, as well as  on-site renovations, including new paint, furniture and structural repairs (thanks to renovation manpower of Clark Construction in DC).

My.Future is a program  that allows Club members to select from more than 40 activities that reinforce digital literacy, including areas of exploring the web, communicating with others digitally as well as allowing members to learn robotics, coding and game design.

The grand unveiling of the new computer lab and My.Future in Washington, DC  was a rather tame affair with a few executives, a few cameras, DC Council member and one local television personality, but the impact this work will have on the kids will be immeasurable. The renovated Richard England Clubhouse #14 was the Boys & Girls Clubs site chosen to unveil the initiative.   My three children were handpicked to be apart of the press conference. My oldest daughter, Michal, was tasked with demonstrating how to use the large touchscreen SMART Board mounted on the wall, transposing her face on the Statue of Liberty before the attendees.

My kids and countless other young people will benefit from the technology upgrades as Clubhouse #14 is one of the busiest Clubs in the area. They are all every excited about having access to so much technology and can’t wait for free time to explore and learn.  As a parent, I am excited also. Not only for my kids, but those less fortunate kids who do not have access to the latest computers or in some cases no computers at all at home.

Additional Clubs in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco were also renovated as part of the launch. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington President and CEO Pandit Wright was joined at the event by Comcast Vice President of Community Investment and Comcast Foundation President Charisse Lillie, Boys & Girls Clubs of America Senior Vice President and Chief Educational Officer Dr. Damon Williams, Councilwoman Yvette Alexander, President and General Manager of NBC4 Washington Jackie Bradford and NBC4 Washington anchor Aaron Gilchrist to celebrate the launch of the program.

Fatherhood Friday Walter White and Nursery Cursing

Bryan Cranston starred as chemistry teacher turned drug dealer, Walter White, in the AMC Emmy winning series “Breaking Bad,” and now gets to lace some profane nursery rhymes in by narrating author Adam Mansbach’s “You Have to F…… Eat.”  Reading a book like this sounds like something his “Breaking Bad” character, Walter White, would do. Clearly, that character is not too far removed from the real guy.  Cranston is the father of two kids, with his youngest being a 20-year old daughter. Fatherhood Friday we salute the bad ass dad that is Bryan Cranston.

I want to be able to experience everything. I want to experience being a husband, experience being a father, experience, maybe, hopefully, someday being a grandfather, and all those things. I want that experience. When I die, I want to be exhausted. – Bryan Cranston

Finding Strength as a Dad

“I’m thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn’t have stumbled across my strength.” #AlexElle

As a dad, you will surely stumble and maybe even fall, but there is a beauty in trying and learning that your child and all that observe appreciate. Learn to appreciate it as well. #DadsRule #Motivation

Fatherhood Friday McConaughey

Star of the new Chris Nolan movie Interstellar and the absolutely awesome HBO series True Detective, Mathew McConaughey gets his true fulfillment from being a dad.  He is a father of three Livingston Alves McConaughey, Levi Alves McConaughey, Vida Alves McConaughey. #FatherhoodFriday … and he’s a Redskins fan!

“It’s the only thing I’ve always wanted to be. I knew when I was 8 years old. I mean, I wanted to be things like the Washington Redskins running back and all that stuff, but the one thing I knew I wanted to be was a father.”   – Mathew McConaughey

I understood that was why my dad was making me say “Yes, sir” and “Yes, ma’am” to elders.  You know, “I’m not on par with the adults yet. There’s places to go.” – Mathew McConaughey
