DC Dads: Earth to Echo Screening Tix

Maybe we are the only ones a bit excited about the movie Earth To Echo. If not and you live in the DC area Daddys Cool has you covered. Dads, get to see the movie early and get some promotional items for your kids.

Earth to Echo looks like a throwback to those campy adventure movies that littered my childhood in the 80’s with imagination and fun.  I don’t know how it will compare to ET but it’s great to be able to view a family movie other than a cartoon with the little one.  The movie hits theaters next Wednessday for everyone else.  Watch the trailer and more!

Get your free passes HERE!

Each pass admits Two – NOTE: We have a limited amount of passes, so once they are gone, we are done.
Screening Details
Tuesday, July 1st
Regal Gallery Place

This information is also on your ticket:

  • Admittance is on a first come, first served basis. So early arrival is strongly encouraged

Fatherhood Friday Song For My Father

Screen Shot 2014-06-19 at 10.50.03 PM

This week one of my favorite jazz musicians passed away. Pianist and cool dad Horace Silver died on June 18 at age 85.  Silver’s greatest album was dedicated to his father, Songs For My Father. If you are not familiar, it pushed the envelope of straight ahead jazz by creating a smoother sound which would be a precursor for the smooth jazz genre.  That was not his only contribution he also kept it funky and bluesy with his group the Jazz Messengers.

Silver’s life changed at the age of 11 when his dad allowed him to stay up late and catch a live performance of a swing band.  He told his dad, “I want to become a famous jazz musician. But whether I become a famous jazz musician or not, I just want to play music. If I play in just a local bar all my life — I just want to play music. That’s all I want to do.”

 Salute RIP Horace Silver #FatherhoodFriday #DadsRule #History

DadsRule Approved Artist: Tobias Felton

Singer, songwritter and all around cool dad, W. Ellington Felton is feeding his son’s passion to be an artist.  Tobias Felton, 10, is more than just on his way to middle school but on his way as an independent artist.  His first album, The Prestige is produced by his dad. “Nurtured talents become living dreams. It’s a beautiful thing to see young passion take flight through the help of a dad.

My kids are excited to hear the album, which is available now, The Prestige.

Michal Zoe’s Review of HTTYD2

I recently took the kids to see How To Train Your Dragon 2. The kids and I  were so impressed with the film that I asked my 9-year old, Michal Zoe, to write a review.  It ended up being more about her experience, but I love it!  Check out what she wrote:           Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 11.28.17 PM

By Michal Zoe Tucker

Before its release, my dad, my siblings, and I went to see a screening of How to Train Your Dragon 2!

I was so excited, I had never been to a screening before. The best part was that we got reserved seats! When we walked in, my dad looked for where we were supposed to go, because he had written an article for his job and that’s why we got the tickets.  So he was looking for the people to meet up with them.  After we found them we got our glasses and a photographer took our picture. Then we got something to eat. I ordered boneless chicken wings, french fries, and fruit punch. I ordered a small cup of juice and it looked liked a large bowl of popcorn.

Anyway, we went into the movie theater and saw the movie! That was one of the best animated movies I’ve seen all year! It was way better than the first one! It had so much action! It was a very sad and happy movie, It was also very funny! I loved the part when Hiccup finally met his mother! If they come out with a new one, I can’t wait to see it! Great movie!

Fit Fathers Day Makes a Difference

Screen Shot 2014-06-17 at 4.13.46 PM

Over 500 people stepped away from their couches and other planned Father’s Day activities on Sunday, June 15, 2014 to take part in the groundbreaking inaugural “Fit Fathers Day” on Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring, MD. Fathers, male role models and their families participated in exercise, fitness competitions, healthy eating and more to celebrate Father’s Day in a brand new way. Fit Fathers, and Powerful Beyond Measures came together on the idea to show fathers the importance of being health conscious and leading by example in exercising. The event was a resounding success.

hottest new and custom vehicles that helped attract a wider audience. Fit Fathers closed down part of the street next to the plaza to set up a display powered by Automotive Rhythms, Throttle Life, Capital Cadillac Fitzgerald Auto Mall and Rolling Status Car Club.

Nike celebrity trainer Deanna Jefferson and Kimatni Rawlins of Fit Fathers lead the participants in an hour-long fitness portion called the “Social Workout.” Dads could be seen at the outdoor pavilion exercising along with their children and one dad, in particular, attempting the light workout with a kid in his arms. There were also fitness competitions in basketball, hula hoop, push ups and planking with awesome prizes from Bose audio, Mothers car care and Shoe City.

Vendors participating in Fit Fathers Day included Children’s Hospital Foundation, Whole Foods, LA Fitness, The Ride To Conquer Cancer and the Men’s Health Network. The event also boasted health food trucks like the vegan soul food of Everlasting Life.

The event brought out local news stations like NBC 4 Washington. The event was mentioned across multiple radio platforms including FM, AM, satellite radio and Internet radio. Through social media and the use of the hashtag #FitFathersDay appearing in newsfeeds there has been an air of anticipation for next year, already.

Fit Fathers Day made an impact on dads like Craig Stewart, who brought his three young daughters. “It was an awesome event, and I hope it is a new tradition for my kids and I on Father’s Day,” he said.
